HENDERSON HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM
The HHS Mock Trial Team competes under the direction of Suellen Perry, Legal Studies CTE teacher at Henderson High School and Kilgore College dual credit instructor, and prominent local attorney Allison Biggs.
Mock Trial is not just for students in the law program – it is for any student who wants to participate in a highly motivating, energetic, and challenging academic competition that looks great on college and scholarship applications while having a lot of fun!
Each October, a new fictional case is released by the Dallas State Bar. Each team must learn and prepare both sides of the case study (Plaintiff/Prosecution and Defense), and students must play the roles of both attorneys and witnesses in a full “mock” trial. The “witnesses” are scored largely on developing an entertaining character for their roles, so students with an outgoing personality or interest in theater arts are a perfect fit. Members work together to learn the facts of the case and to create strategies for trial. In addition, the team may have a courtroom artist who competes in the courtroom artist portion of the event by sketching a live scene from one of the team’s trials, providing a fantastic opportunity for our artistically gifted students.
Hundreds of teams compete across Texas each year in regional competitions, and the winners from each region compete in the annual Texas State High School Mock Trial competition in Dallas, Texas.
Our HHS Mock Trial has been incredibly successful in recent years, advancing to the state competition in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022. Student Quentin Moon was awarded Outstanding Witness in the 2022 Regional Competition, and Outstanding Attorney in the 2021 and 2020 Regional Competitions.
Our 2021-22 HHS Mock Trial team swept the Regional Competition for a 1st Place win. Senior Quentin Moon was awarded Outstanding Witness for the event. Senior Brooklyn Conert took 1st Place in the courtroom artist competition.
Team members include Nikhil Pai, Quentin Moon, Kennedy Foster, Gavin Henderson, Turner Sugg, Adison Berry, Trinity Sledge, Desteny Martinez, Pehrson Lucio, Kenneth Biggs, and courtroom artist Brooklyn Conert.
