Contest opportunities
TMEA All-State Choir- Starting at the region level, students audition with high schools in the state of Texas for placement in the Region choir. Some then advance to Pre-Area and Area where singers have the opportunity to earn a place in the All-State Choir that performs in San Antonio at the TMEA convention in February. We begin working on this music during the summer and into the fall semester.
UIL Solo and Ensemble- Students are assigned a solo and/or an ensemble to learn which they will perform in front of a judge in early February. Students who score a 1(one) will receive a medal. Some are able to perform at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble contest in May.
UIL Concert and Sight Reading- In the spring, choirs will attend this event with prepared music and perform for a panel of judges. After the concert performance, the choir is tested on Sight reading ability.
