HHS SENIOR YEAR INFO PACKET

COLLEGE ADMISSION TIPS FOR SENIOR STUDENTS:

FALL:

  • Check admissions, housing, and scholarship deadlines for schools still on your list. (Many deadlines fall as early as November. Check out the Scholarship Information page.)

  • Get organized. Mark your calendar with deadline alerts. Make files for each school and scholarship. Keep copies of all applications.

  • Use personal email account when communicating with schools and scholarship committees.

  • Attend Rusk County College Night (usually scheduled in November)

  • Visit with College Admission Representatives when they are on campus.

  • Take SAT or ACT again, if necessary (to try for a higher score) and SAT II if needed. (Check out the Test Dates page)

  • Make sure SAT/ACT scores have been forwarded to colleges in which you have interest.

  • Use the Internet for scholarship searches, plus college websites for campus scholarships.

  • Find your tax information, you will need it to fill out the FAFSA, the federal financial aid form, it requires figures from parent and student completed tax returns. Find info on FAFSA site.)

  • Update and fine-tune your student profile in Google. Do not forget to include community service, volunteering, summer enrichment, study/travel, and part-time work.

  • Complete and Mail FASFA as early as October 1st.

  • Fill out this SENIOR BRAG SHEET to help keep track of involvement in school activities. Give one to each person you ask to write a Letter of Recommendation.

SPRING:

  • Attend Financial Aid Nights at area colleges and at Henderson High School

  • Continue checking the Scholarship Information page for new scholarships.

  • Make sure to pay attention to deadlines!

  • Ask teachers to write a letter of recommendation (make sure ask in advance and allow at least two weeks - give them a Brag Sheet or a Resume).

  • Check with your counselor to see if your ACT/SAT scores exempt you from the THEA.

  • Wait for acceptance letters from colleges and make your final decision, notify the college of your choice.
